Gary Chambers has stepped forward to endorse Karen Carter Peterson in Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District Senate runoff to fill Cedric Richmond’s seat.
Chambers, a progressive candidate who took second place in Orleans Parish in the primary, says he originally wasn’t going to make an endorsement and that he only did so after “a lot of thought and many difficult conversations.”
“If I sit this out, that only serves me personally and I’m no better than those who sat it out on us,” Chambers said. “This work is bigger than me, my ego, or my desires. This work is about changing lives, and if we stay at home or I don’t endorse that means the issue we stand for aren’t a priority.”
Chambers cites Karen Carter Peterson’s support of the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and a $15 minimum wage, as well as her long legislative history as reasons for the endorsement. He also states “She also has areas to grow and I believe she recognizes that.”
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
