We don't go into journalism to be popular. It is our job to seek the truth and put constant pressure on our leaders until we get answers. -Helen Thomas
Hi everyone! I’m Jenn Bentley, a freelance reporter in New Orleans, Louisiana. I’m a proud member of the Louisiana chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists, I’m a member in good standing of the International Writer and Editor’s Association, and a member of the Freelancer’s Union.
As a freelance writer, I send out dozens of pitches every day to news outlets across New Orleans. Only a few get approved. So what happens to the rest? They get rejected - often because they’ll take too much time to research and complete, or because they’ll potentially anger important political figures, business leaders, or community members.
That’s why I’ve launched ReportNOLA: a publication not held down by the need to walk a thin line in order to keep advertisers (or political figures on either side of the aisle) happy.
Even better, there’s no paywall - though, you’ll help me make my rent if you do happen to throw me a few dollars a month.
So let’s get started, shall we? There’s lots of news out there.
