Earlier tonight, I made a post that included a social media video that appeared to be from New Orleans showing smoke grenade explosions, vehicles doing donuts, and vehicles running into a crowd of people. Although the person who posted the video told me that it was from New Orleans in the Gentilly area, I have now been informed that it was not.
I apologize to everyone on this list for the error, and the previous post has been corrected. While errors do sometimes happen, it’s my intention to release only reliable information, and I failed on that count in this case.
Every journalist has this happen, but the important thing is that you handled it with grace and transparency. Our community is lucky to have ReportNOLA, for this reason and others. Keep up the great local reporting, including exclusive stories. One day you will be a national voice. Keep up the great work.
It was bound to happen at some point, unfortunately. One of the perils with work as a freelancer is that I don't have an editor or fact checkers behind me helping to verify all of the information/tips that I receive on a daily basis. Yesterday I allowed my own enthusiasm for "getting the story out" quickly to overtake me a bit too much, and I jumped rather than taking the time to consider.
I appreciate your understanding and the positivity sent my way! Thanks so much.
